DUST
DUST
DUST is an evening length piece that has gone through many changes and growing pains. In it's infancy, it was a piece based on poetry and danced to the music of Bela Bartok. For various reasons, the majority of the cast has changed, and with those changes, the piece found ways to adjust.
On August 8th and 9th, 2017 the first draft of DUST was shown at Phantom Theater in Warren, Vermont. I had the privilege to once again work with Ashima Fillbach and Natalie Wheeler. I was just as excited to be work with two new dancers: Ally Baitz and Noah Witke. In addition to those dancers, I collaborated with Emily Reynolds on the costumes.
For the premiere of DUST, the audience experienced the piece to the music on Zoe Keating. The performance was the very first time that the dancers performed the movement to that particular music. It was an exhilarating experience for all involved. For the second and final show, the audience heard a broadcast of Radiolab's very first show - Who Am I? - which the dancers and I created the movement to.
DUST is, at it's core, a piece that explores the ever evolving notions of self, identity, and unity. How do you know who you are? What makes you, you? Is what you project to the outside world the same as how you see yourself? In what ways do stereotypes play a role in how we navigate through life?
